Fall Draft Seminar

Fall Draft Dog Seminar - October 3, 2021

As we cautiously transition to re-opening, CONDC will host a Draft Dog Seminar on Sunday, October 3, 2021 at the Debruyn Farm in Acton.  We are fortunate to have Peggy Flockhart as our well informed, talented instructor. She is an experienced draft dog judge, handler and Newf enthusiast.

The initial part of the day will focus on introducing the various harnesses, equipment choices, cart styles and how to determine the best equipment for your dog.  Sample harnesses and equipment will be available to test.

COVID protocols will be in place including a requirement for participants to have both COVID vaccinations. A sanitization station will be available and carts must be wiped after each user. Mask will be worn if social distancing cannot be maintained unless both parties agree otherwise.

The afternoon will be spent working on skills, whether that is your first use of a travois for training development or encompassing precision improvement and refinement for those with draft experience and how to reach the next level. Understand what a trial feels like and what does a judge see. If there is time, we can have a mini fun-trial to give you a sense of how the day would unfold.

Draft work has always been a traditional job for Newfoundland dogs.  Once you and your dog become a draft team, there are countless activities in which to participate. Christmas tree drags, parades,  rides for youngsters or hauling your favorite toys or a load of puppies are only a few of the possibilities!
